The game didn’t exactly start off fantastically for Chelsea, and you could tell they were a side lacking confidence. Their misery was compounded when Eden Hazard suffered what looked initially to be a fairly innocuous hip injury, but had to be forced off and replaced by Pedro.
Leicester looked the more likely of the two to score, and the goal eventually came. There were no prizes for guessing which two players were involved, and this time it was a Riyad Mahrez assist for yet another Jamie Vardy goal.
The Algerian put a fantastic cross into the box from the right hand side, with Vardy timing his run perfectly. Kurt Zouma was totally static in the box, and the Leicester striker was able to squeeze between he and John Terry to volley past Thibaut Courtois. 1-0.
It was more of the same early on after the break, and Chelsea just weren’t able to compete with the energy Leicester were showing. The Foxes soon doubled their lead, with Mahrez getting a goal of his own minutes into the second half. He plucked the ball out of air in the box, with the marking from Chelsea poor. He was allowed to dance his way through the defence, and when given a sight on goal he fired it towards the far post. It was a beautifully struck shot, and Courtois could do nothing to keep it out. 2-0.
Loic Remy’s introduction changes things a little, and Chelsea were starting to look more of an attacking threat. They missed a couple of fantastic chances though, with Remy, Predo, and Branislav Ivanovic particularly guilty. The Serbian looked certain to score when he was found at the far post, but somehow failed to connect properly and was left with his head in his hands.
Chelsea eventually got their goal, and it was substitute Remy who found the net. A superb cross was put in from the left from Pedro, leaving the Frenchman with a relatively simple chance from a few yards out. He got his head on it, and from such close range Kasper Schmeichel could do very little. 2-1.
There was no shutting up shop from Leicester, and the rest of the game was certainly end to end. Chelsea couldn’t get their equalising goal though, and they slip closer towards the relegation zone while Leicester City return to the summit – dethroning Arsenal after just a day.
