Stuart Bingham reached the quarter-finals of the World Championship for the second time in nine Crucible appearances with an emphatic 13-5 win over Graeme Dott. Ball-run led 11-5 after two sessions and added the two frames he needed today, closing with a break of 104.
“To beat someone of Graeme’s level 13-5 at the Crucible is an unbelievable feeling,” Bingham said.
“Before I went out I felt the nerves kicked in. Then I made a good break in the first frame and a sort of calmness came over me, and that carried on throughout the match. I matched him in every aspect of the game and outscored him.”
“It would mean everything to reach the semis, to walk out with one table left. To experience that would be a dream come true. I want to give myself a chance to pick that trophy up.”
Ronnie O’Sullivan moved within two wins of a fourth consecutive Crucible final by beating Matthew Stevens 13-5 in the last 16 of the World Championship. World number two O’Sullivan led Stevens 12-4 after two sessions, making top breaks of 50, 100, 63, 61, 62, 110, 139 and 61. Welshman Stevens won the opening frame tonight with a 63 before O’Sullivan sealed victory in the next with a 77.
“I played pretty well in the first session and alright in the second. My mental skills were good in the second session – even though I got frustrated a few times, I was still able to concentrate on the match. I wasn’t happy that I lost my temper a few times, but it was heat of the moment stuff. I wanted to win and play well.”
“I hate losing, I want to excel at everything I do, including cooking and running. I’ll never get rid of that part of me. I’m better equipped at handling it now and not losing too much energy on it.”
The winner will be given by the safety success rate (82% vs 86% in last 16 round) as I can see a big difference in pot success (88% vs 92% in last 16 round) and I could see Bingham winning if his safety success rate will be at least 85% and a pot success near 90%.
H2H: Ronnie 11-2
