The final four in 2014/2015 Euroleague season is all about Madrid, as the 58th edition of Euroleague will take place in the Spanish capital and one of the participants and favorites is Real Madrid, which so far enjoyed a beautiful campaign. In the final four semi finals Real Madrid will place against Fenerbahce Ulker, which is set to participate in their first ever final four play-off. Real Madrid on the other hand is the most successful European basketball club with eight titles.
Real Madrid and Fenerbahce don’t share a rich history when it comes to head to head stats. Over the course of last 15 years or so, Real Madrid and Fenerbahce have played six times with Real Madrid every single game. Their last meeting came in Euroleague 2012/2013 season, when Real Madrid defeated Fenerbahce in the group stage both times.
Real Madrid is, based on betting odds, labeled as the top favorite for the trophy at the Euroleague 2014/2015 season. Real Madrid last title came exactly twenty years ago, when a generation led by Lithuanian giant Arvydas Sabonis defeated Olympiacos in the finals. Since then there have been plenty of squad rebuilding, but only in 2010/2011 Real Madrid returned to the final four and has since then played twice in the finals, but lost both – last season Maccabi Electra was better and prior to that Olympiakos came on top. Real Madrid have enjoyed a great campaign so far, defeating another Turkish side in the play-offs Anadolu Efes 3-1. Home turf advantage, tradition and form are heavily on Real Madrid’s side so we think this is going to be a victory for the Spanish giants.
Fenerbahce Ulker has become the most influential Turkish side in the last several years, winning couple of championship titles and earning a place in the Euroleague. However, they failed to reach the final four prior to this season and they hope to reach the finals on their premiere. Fenerbahce has been outstanding this season, losing only three games in the group stages but also hammering last year champions Maccabi Electra 3-0. Under the leadership of this years MVP Nemanja Bjelica, Fenerbahce hopes of reaching the first final four final where they will face either Olympiacos or CSKA, to whom they already played in the group stages – winning two games and losing two as well.
Although Real Madrid emerges as a clear and home favorite, it is important to notice that Fenerbahce have a young squad and their motivation is at its peak, with the first ever qualification to the final four. Bjelica, Bogdanovi? and co. have what it takes to beat Rodriguez, Lluli and others, but the advantage of home fans brings Real Madrid closer to the win.
The match will be played in May 15, 2015, right after CSKA and Olympiacos share their tie.
