Carter came back to the snooker circuit in November 2014 after a chemotherapy treatment for lung cancer. For those who are not aware of this, Carter plays in this year World snooker Championship due to World Snooker Association’s decision that frozen Carter’s seeding at 13 for the remainder of the 2014/15 season, ensuring that he will qualify as of right for both the Masters and World Championship tournaments, as well as the Champion of Champions. He lost the two matches played in autumn of 2014, 0-4 to Neil Robertson at the invitational tournament Champion of Champions and 5-6 against Anda in first round of 2014 UK championship. In 2015 he recorded wins by Championship League groups, as well as winning with 6-1 over Hawkins at the Masters, Patrick, King and Selt at the Welsh Open, 4-1 with Page in the qualifying stage of the Indian Open and 5-1 against McCrudden in the same stage of China Open, before losing in both tournaments in the first match at the final stage.
McManus reached the televised stage of this year World snooker Championship after the victories recorded over Wasley, Pagett and Mann. Angles reported notable victories this season by Wuxi Classis, 5-4 versus Higgins, 5-4 vs Perry in the next tournament, Australian Open, 5-3 vs O’Sullivan and 5-1 vs Maguire at the Shanghai Masters and 4-0 vs Dott by EPT Event 6. Alan was a world semi-finalist of the World Championship twice, in 1992 and 1993, but has never appeared in a final.
Though the finalist from 2008 and 2012 is passing one of the most difficult periods of his carrier, I can see Carter losing this match.
Prediction: Before looking at the stats, I was tempted to say that McManus can produce the surprise here, but after I wrote the above sentences I can state that Carter should play poorly to lose here.
Betting perspectives: none.
